Show Review: We Regret To Inform You: It’s a Show — The Rebel Lounge, Sept 11

The Rebel Lounge has always carried the weight of history — formerly the Mason Jar, the room that once hosted Nirvana, Green Day, and Jimmy Eat World. On Sept 11, it felt every bit that legendary as “We Regret To Inform You: It’s a Show” filled the venue wall-to-wall with a lineup that reminded us exactly why Phoenix keeps showing up. Despite the heat, every band delivered performances more befitting of a big stage with big lights and big sound — a testament to just how strong this scene is.

Vilaura opened the night in spectacular fashion, with Aleena Jacobs commanding the room from the first note. Her seemingly limitless range — equal parts Hayley Williams fire and Ann Wilson soul — carried the band through soaring alt-rock anthems that set a high bar for the night.

Moondance Mirage followed, bringing not just high energy but pure joy. With a set as stylish as it was spirited, they lit up the room, serving lewks that turned heads and even sneaking in a lively Macarena that had the crowd laughing, dancing, and singing along.

Direct support came from Mocking Jupiter, whose dark rock sound anchored the night with weight and precision. Stoic but powerful, their performance shook the room — a tight, moving set that rippled with emotion and left the audience hanging on every riff.

Then came the headliner: Piper Connolly & The Habit. If Alanis Morissette, Jim Morrison, Grace Slick, and Freddie Mercury had somehow conspired to create a single force of nature, the result might come close to Piper. Equal parts raw confession, radical charisma, and pure electricity, she doesn’t just perform — she commands, captivates, and transforms the room. With a seven-piece band of technical standouts behind her, every unexpected twist in the setlist felt deliberate, dangerous, and exhilarating. Piper’s “it factor” is undeniable — the kind of presence that makes you forget you’re in a club and convinces you you’re watching history unfold.

Nights like this are the reason we gather. The reason we sweat it out in packed rooms. The reason we show up. The Rebel Lounge and their team — from the stellar sound crew and dialed-in security, to the bar staff keeping the energy flowing, to the back office making it all run seamlessly — helped us deliver an unforgettable night. The Phoenix music community deserves stages and teams like this, and we cannot wait to be back with even more lineups like this one.
